This semi-old silk and cotton Sumak is a stunning piece of Turkish rug art. It is 30-40 years old and is handwoven silk on cotton. The details of the tribal images are outstanding. With its numerous rectangular central panels with detailed and historical motifs that symbolise both immortaility and divinity.The background of this piece is full of images of tribesmen with a wonderful array of colours from the natural dyes used on this piece. All finished off with a slim intricate patterned border with a small cotton fringe.This beautiful Sumak would not look out of place on a gallery wall but at the same time would grace any home. Soumak rug making techniques have been around for almost 500 years. The process used to make these traditonal rugs is a similar technique to how tapestry is woven and leave no pilling like normal area rugs.
